Tunisia thrashed 5-1 by Sweden at World Cup
Sweden led by Arsenal striker Victor Gyokeres and Liverpool hitman Alexander Isak delivered a ruthless performance against Africa’s hopefuls, Tunisia at the ongoing FIFA 2026 World Cup.
Sweden cruised to a comfortable 5-1 victory against Tunisia to kickstart their World Cup campaign at the Estadio Monterrey in Guadalupe, Mexico signaling the team’s readiness to go all the way at the mundial.
Yasin Ayari who plies his trade for Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion gave Sweden the lead in the game as early as the 7th minute with a stunning long range strike.
Alexander Isak picked up from where Ayari left in the 40th minute when he doubled Sweden’s lead in the game after receiving a pass from Gyokeres before he powered his way to the opponents 18-yard box and slotting the ball into the bottom right corner of the Tunisian goal post.
The Tunisian team rallied round to impose themselves in the game and it paid off in the in the 43rd minute when Omar Rekin halved the deficit for Tunisia just before the break with a glancing header to spark hopes of a comeback in the game.

However, the thought of a possible comeback was put to bed when Gyokeres hit a sublime shot past the Tunisian goalkeeper in the 59th minute of the game after receiving a pass from Isak to restore Sweden’s two goal advantage.
Sweden made it 4-1 in the 84th minute when substitute Mattias Svanberg, swept a shot into the back of the net for his team 18 seconds after coming on in the game. The offside flag was initially raised when the ball hit the back of the net but the goal was later given after a lengthy VAR check .
Ayari put the icing on the cake for the Swedish national team when he hit another stunning strike to the delight of scores of watching fans as the team rounded off the dominant performance with a huge scoreline.
Following Sweden’s 5–1 victory over Tunisia in their Group F opener, both teams have two remaining group stage matches scheduled for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Sweden currently leads Group F and will look to secure a spot in the knockout rounds in their upcoming fixture against Netherlands on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, while Tunisia will lock horns with Japan on the same day at the Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, Mexico.
