Zverev beat Shelton in US Open final to win second major title
Alexander Zverev has now clinched his second major Grand Slam title after beating Ben Shelton in the final of the US Open on Sunday.
The German top seed had won his first major title at this year’s French Open and has quickly added another with a 6-3 7-6 (7-2) 5-7 6-2 victory over Shelton in New York.
Eighth seed Shelton was aiming to become the first American man to win a major title since Andy Roddick in 2003, but losing serve in the first game of the match set the tone as Zverev controlled the opening two sets.

Addressing his team which is led by his father Alexander senior and brother Mischa, Zverev said: “We went 30 years without winning a Grand Slam title and now won two in the span of three months.
“I think God has seen how hard we have work, how hard we have suffered and how much pain we went through. I think 2026 is the outcome of all the years that happened before.”
Zverev will stay as world number two following his US Open triumph but has closed the gap on Jannik Sinner at the top of the rankings.
Shelton meanwhile will rise to a career-high fourth in the world when the latest ATP rankings come out on Monday
