Carrick addresses speculations over Man Utd future
Former England international midfielder Michael Carrick has addressed speculation over his future as coach of English Premier League club Manchester United following a string of poor results.
Carrick is currently facing immense pressure following an eight-game winless streak, leaving Manchester United sitting 16th in the table—just one point above the relegation zone.
The coach who was speaking to the English media on Thursday said that he does not need any assurances from anyone as he understands the responsibilities that come with the job.
“I do not need any assurances from anyone.
“I totally get the position; I understand the job; I understand the responsibilities; I understand what comes with that,” he said.
When asked if he’s surprised to still be the coach of United, Carrick said that he is not shocked that he is still in charge of the team. He also added that he will do all within his power to get Manchester United back to winning ways.
“I am not surprised that I am still in charge. I’m here to do my job. I’m here to do the best for the team, and I’m desperate to make us better and improve things,” Carrick noted.
The English tactician who made 464 appearances for Manchester United between 2006 and 2018, also issued injury updates regarding two of his players: Benjamin Sesko and Kobe Mainoo.

He said: “Unfortunately, Ben looks like he’s going to be out for a period of time.
“We’re still not clear of exactly how long, but it’s going to be for a longer period of time.
Concerning the availability of Mainoo, the coach said; “He’s returned to training so that’s obviously a very good news for us to have Kobbie back.”
Carrick who won five Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Europa League as a player for Manchester United also disclosed that he has ended his rift with Bruno Fernandes who remains fully committed to the club.
He said; “Bruno Fernandes os fully committed to this football club, he’s fully committed to making things better. It doesn’t change for me.
“He will continue to lead us as a key player,” the coach noted.
Carrick is expected to still be in charge when Manchester United face Chelsea away in a highly anticipated Match-week 9 league fixture this weekend which may ultimately decide his future at Old Trafford.
