Nigeria’s D’Tigress secure qualification for FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup

The U-18 female basketball team of Nigeria, D’Tigress has secured qualification for the FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup after securing victory over West African rivals, Ivory Coast.

The Junior Tigress who will now square up against Mali in their next game narrowly defeated Ivory Coast 53-50 on Friday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.

The victory over Ivory Coast has secured Nigeria one of the two spots for African teams at the 2027 FIBA U-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup to be held in China.

Favour Joy Anari led Nigeria with a game-high 15 points while her teammate Nimah Ibidunni Grabbed 14 rebounds to control the boards.

Oluwatobiloba Owolabi hit crucial late three-pointers to seal the narrow win over Ivory Coast to reach the final of the basketball competition.

Nigeria advances to the final of the tournament to face defending champions Mali, who defeated Egypt 57-55 in their respective semi-final clash.
