Argentina tie Scaloni down to new deal until 2030 World Cup –Report

Lionel Scaloni

The Argentina Football Federation has tied down Lionel Scaloni as head coach of the national team after he agreed to extend his contract until the 2030 World Cup.

The deal according to a post shared on X by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano runs initially through 2028 (covering the 2028 Copa América cycle) with an option or agreement to continue through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Further reports reveal that talks were finalised with Argentina FA and president Claudio Tapia following recent international break discussions with the Scaloni about his long-term future as coach of the men’s national team.

The coach has agreed to the proposal by the FA sent in September with details of the deal being sorted before his contract extension is officially announced to the public with the two parties expected to finalise the remaining details and sign a new agreement soon.

The decision by the Scaloni to extend his contract is a significant boost for Argentina as they will retain the coach who led them to the 2022 World Cup and ended the country’s 36-year wait for football’s biggest prize.

The coach who took charge of the men’s national team in 2018 has previously led Argentina to victory at the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the 2024 Copa América.
