Busari warns Flamingos against complacency ahead Mexico clash
Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has warned his team against getting complacent ahead of their Round of 16 match against Mexico at the ongoing 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup taking place in Morocco.
Busari who made the call after his team were paired with the North Americans in the knockout stage the competition following Mexico’s 1-0 against Australia to finish second in Group F, emphasized that Flamingos cannot let their guard down in the knockout stage of the U-17 Women’s World.
Speaking ahead of the showdown with Mexico on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in Salé, Morocco, Busari said that finishing second in Group B boosted team morale but they won’t allow that feat to overwhelm them.
“Finishing second raises the girls’ morale, but we will not allow complacency,” he warned.

“We still have to respect the teams we are going to meet, and equally, they should respect us too, because it’s a knockout stage,” Busari said.
The coach expressed total confidence that the gruelling group phase has fully prepared his players to show their true quality.
He added, “This is just a mark, and I think we’ll be able to come out of our shell in the second round.”
The Flamingos have resumed rigorous training sessions in Morocco to sharpen their strategy as they aim to surpass Nigeria’s best-ever third-place finish at the U-17 Women’s World Cup.
