Man City defeat Chelsea to win FA Cup
Manchester City earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chelsea to win the 2025-26 FA Cup trophy at Wembley on Saturday.
It was another heartbreaking final for Chelsea as they lost their consecutive FA Cup final at Wembley.
Interim coach Calum McFarlane opted for the same lineup that played a 1-1 draw against Liverpool with Levi Colwill and Reece James keeping their places in the team.
Pep Guardiola handed second choice goalkeeper James Trafford a place in the lineup while Rodri made a return from injury to start as Rayan Cherki dropped to the bench.
The first half ended goalless but Antoine Semenyo produced a moment of brilliance to break the deadlock in the 72nd minute to give Man City the lead.
The Ghanaian forward finished off Erling Haaland’s pass with a sublime backheel finish to send the Man City fans into wild jubilations at Wembley.
Chelsea rallied to find their way back into the game but they failed to find the target as Man City held on to win their 20th trophy under Pep Guardiola.
The Cityzens also ended their losing run in the FA Cup final after losing the last two editions to Manchester United and Crystal Palace respectively.
For Chelsea their poor run of form continued with their seventh consecutive defeat at Wembley.
Pep Guardiola’s men have now won the two domestic trophies in England after beating Arsenal 2-1 in the Carabao Cup.
