Edouard Mendy retires from int’l football
Senegal international goalkeeper Edourd Mendy has officially retired from international football bringing his eight year career with the senior national team to an end.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper took to his official Instagram page to announce his retirement from national team duties in an emotional video post today, September 13, 2026.
In his post shared on the social media platform, the Al-Ahli goal tender shared a highlight reel of his international journey with a simple message to the Lions of Teranga: “Thank you, Senegal.”

The goalkeeper, nominated for Yashin Trophy as best GK 2026 says he’s leaving after being AFCON winner with Senegal and legend for the West African country.
Mendy who made his debut in 2018 under former head coach Aliou Cissé, and went on to earn 60 caps for his nation made his debut for the national team in 2018 under former head coach Aliou Cissé,
He also guided Senegal to their first-ever continental crown, saving a decisive penalty against Egypt in the final shootout and taking home the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper award.
