Senegal hires Patrick Vieira as new head coach on four-year contract
The Senegalese Football Federation has hired former French international midfielder, and ex-Crystal Palace manager, Patrick Vieira as new head coach of the national team on a four-year contract.
Vieira who penned contract covering the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and 2030 World Cup cycle, succeeds former Senegal International Pape Thiaw following the team’s 2026 World Cup exit.
In its brief statement issued on Tuesday, the Senegalese Football Federation noted that “the date of the official presentation and the next steps of his appointment will be the subject of a later announcement.”

The coach who now takes over a structural project commonly referred to as “Vision 2030” will reported earn a monthly salary between €35,000 and €45,000.
The Arsenal legend who was born in Dakar, Senegal, returns to his roots to lead the Teranga Lions as he is all set to lead the project with immediate effect.
Vieira’s immediate task will to guide Senegal to at least the final of the 2027 AFCON, with qualifiers beginning soon, with a long-term plan to build a high-level technical structure and secure qualification for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
