Herve Renard returns as Ivory Coast coach
Herve Renard has returned as the coach of the Ivory Coast national team, 11 years after leading them to their second Nations Cup trophy.
The French coach led Ivory Coast to the 2015 Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea after a 23-year wait for a continental glory.
He replaced Emerse Fae, who left the role last week after his contract expired.
The Ivory Coast Football Federation confirmed his appointment in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement read: “The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) informs the family of Ivorian football, its Member Associations, its institutional and commercial partners, and the general public that Mr Herve Jean-Marie Roger Renard has been appointed as Head Coach of Côte d’Ivoire’s national team.

“This appointment reflects the Federation’s determination to build on the achievements secured by the National Team in recent years, while continuing to pursue the ambitions set for Ivorian football on the African and international stage,” it added.
Renard replaced Sabri Lamouchi as Tunisia’s coach after a 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their first World Cup match.
He oversaw the team’s last two matches in the group stage against Japan and Netherlands. He left the role after the tournament.
Renard has found joy in coaching African teams in recent years, he has had stints with national teams of Angola, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Zambia, with whom he won the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2012.
He is the first coach in history to win the AFCON with two different nations after winning it with Zambia in 2012, and Ivory Coast in 2015.
