Flying Eagles captain Daga acquitted of sexual assault in Norway
Flying Eagles captain Daniel Daga has been acquitted of sexual assault by Norway’s Frostating Court of Appeal, paving the way for him to return to action.
The Molde FK young star was sentenced to six months in prison in March after being found guilty of committing a sexual act without consent.
The 19-year-old Nigerian was also ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs.
However, Molde FK confirmed on Thursday that Daga has been unanimously acquitted in a criminal case by the Frostating Court of Appeal.
The club said in an official statement that although the Court of Appeal has acquitted the player, the verdict is not yet legally binding.
The statement read: “Daniel Daga has been unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that was heard by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Molde FK takes note of the verdict, although the ruling is not yet legally binding.

“The club acknowledges that this has been a serious and tasking case for everyone affected.
“Since the charges were brought, Molde FK has made ongoing assessments based on the situation and the club’s responsibility as an employer. Now that the Court of Appeal’s ruling is available and Daniel Daga has been acquitted, we as an employer consider that Daniel will be available to play for Molde FK going forward.”
As a result of the ruling, Daga is now available for selection for Molde FK.
He joined the club last summer and he made 15 appearances, scoring three goals before he was involved in the scandal.
Daga played for the likes of One Rocket, Dakkada FC and Enyimba before moving to Norway.
He also captained the Flying Eagles to the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
