Gueye vows to never play for Senegal again until coach Thiaw is sacked
Talented Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has vowed to never play for the senior national team again until incumbent head coach Pape Thiaw and his backroom staff are sacked.
Belgium fought back from a 2-0 goal deficit to defeat Senegal 3-2 in their round of 32 clash at the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday which was played at the magnificent Seattle Stadium.
Moments after the Teranga Lions of Senegal were eliminated from the tournament, Gueye took to his Instagram page to express his anger about the outcome of the Round of 32 game.
The 27-year-old Villarreal player said that, henceforth he will take a break from national team selection until the coach is sacked.
Gueye also stated in his post on social media that he will reveal more details about the team’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup very soon.

He wrote: “I will come back to say a few words about the elimination… but I am announcing today that as long as this coaching staff is in place, I will be taking a break from the national team.”
Senegal held a commanding 2-0 lead in the early stages of the game, but the Red Devils executed a stunning late-game comeback to win the exhilarating encounter.
The winning goal of the game which was scored by Youri Tielemans via a controversial VAR penalty at 124 minutes and 44 seconds, stands as the latest goal ever scored in World Cup history.
Belgium also became the first team to win a World Cup knockout match after trailing by 2+ goals in normal time since their own 3-2 comeback victory over Japan in 2018.
