FG fulfils pledge to D’Tigress players, officials for 2025 AfroBasket win
The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed payment of $100k to each member of the senior female basketball team nicknamed D’Tigress following their 2025 AfroBasket win.
The payment was confirmed in a statement on the X handle of the FG which redeems a pledge made in early August 2025 after the team won the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title in Côte d’Ivoire.
In the statement issued on social media, the FG disclosed that officials and players of the Super Falcons have already received title documents to their houses and National Honours certificates, likewise the promise of houses and national honors made to Super Eagles players have been redeemed.
“Today, the rewards I promised our D’Tigress have been fully redeemed,” the Presidency wrote.
“Each player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official has received the equivalent of $50,000, completing their package of cash rewards, national honours and three-bedroom homes in Abuja.
“For the first time, a Federal Government has fulfilled this scale of presidential sporting rewards in full within one year. We had to follow the processes required by law and ensure that every commitment was properly implemented. That took time, but a promise made must be a promise kept.
“The outstanding cash rewards for our Super Falcons are also being concluded.

“The Super Falcons players and official have already recieved the title documents to their houses allocation and National Honours certificates. Likewise the promise of houses and national honors I made to Super Eagles players have since been redeemed.
“Our athletes who bring honour to Nigeria deserve more than applause. They deserve a country that keeps its word.
“My promise to every Nigerian Athelete is make NIGERIA proud and come back to a grateful Nation.
“Congratulations once again, our athletes. Nigeria is proud of you.” The statement concluded.
The fully redeemed package for D’Tigress include; three-bedroom flats in Abuja and the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
D’Tigress secured an unprecedented fifth consecutive AfroBasket title (and seventh overall) by defeating Mali 78–64 in the final held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
