CAF CL: Rangers overcome Sobemap on penalties to advance
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Enugu Rangers has qualified for the next round of the CAF Champions League after overcoming Beninese club Sobemap FC 5-4 on penalties on Friday.
The second leg of the preliminary-round tie played at the Stade de Kegue ended 1-1 draw after regulation time with the aggregate score level at 2-2 following a similar 1-1 draw in the first leg played in Enugu.
Rangers tutored by Fidelis Ilechukwu took an lead early in the CAF Champions League game via an own goal scored by Sobemap through a freekick in the 22nd minute of the encounter.

However, Sobemap fought hard in the game to level scores and they were rewarded for their efforts with an equaliser with just 25 minutes left to play in the game.
With the tie ending 2-2 on aggregate, the match proceeded straight to penalties with Rangers holding their nerves to overcome their opponents in the shootout by 5-4.
The reigning NPFL champions have now qualified for the second preliminary round of the CAF competition where they will face Algerian clubside, MC Alger in a double leg encounter set for October, 2026.
