Rodri has opened up on his decision to join Barcelona ahead of Real Madrid after completing his move to the La Liga champions on Tuesday.
Rodri signed a four-year deal to end his hugely successful spell at Manchester City to become Barcelona’s third signing of the summer.
Barcelona paid €60 million for Rodri after having their initial bids rejected.
The Spanish national team captain was close to joining Real Madrid before Barcelona stepped in to snatch him from the jaws of their rivals.
Rodri was delighted to complete a dream move to Barcelona while expressing his delight at the team’s playing style.
He said: “I am so happy to be here. It’s a really special day, a new, important chapter in my career.

“It was a tough decision. Firstly because I was leaving City, who gave me everything. I was really happy there and will always be grateful. I appreciate how they facilitated my exit.
“Barcelona has always been a reference for me because of the values and the playing style here. It’s true I had another offer, but Barça was the first option and I told the board here that.
“I’m happy to have a coach who I think will bring a lot to my career. It’s a style that I think is somewhat different from what I’ve experienced before, so it will be enriching and help me grow as a player.”
Rodri spent seven years at Manchester City, making 298 appearances while winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups and the Champions League in 2023.
Barcelona will open their 2026-27 La Liga campaign against Elche on Sunday.
