NFF President, Gusau, board members reportedly resign
Ibrahim Gusau, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), along with his board members and General Secretary Dr Sanusi, have all reportedly resigned amid pressure over the national team’s failure to qualify for recent World Cups and scrutiny of a N17 billion Federal fund.
The development was confirmed by a National Sports Commission official who described the resignations as a step towards restructuring Nigerian Football ahead of ahead of the forthcoming September 27 elections in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The biggest setbacks include the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons’ historic failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, ending Nigeria’s ever-present record at the women’s tournament.
Gusau and his board members also faced scrutiny over the management of a ₦17 billion Federal Government intervention fund intended to address outstanding payments to national team players and officials. The EFCC and the ICPC have reportedly been examining documentation relating to the funds.

Fresh reports indicates that Gusau is expensive to address a press conference by 12pm today to officially announce his resignation and give an account of his stewardship in the last four year.
Gusau’s resignation comes a day after former coach of Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, Fanny Amun stepped down as the chairman of the fact-finding committee set up by NFF to investigate dwindling fortunes of the country’s football.
Fans and analysts see Gusau’s exit as a crucial first step for restructuring and accountability, though they stress the need for strong new leadership to rebuild Nigerian football.
