NPFL secures $7.5m sponsorship deal

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has secured a title sponsorship from Euromatch which amounts to $7.5 million over a three-year period.

The lucrative deal was announced on Wednesday by NPFL chairman Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye who disclosed that the three-year agreement will commence in the 2026/27 season.

According to Elegbeleye who made the disclosure during the unveiling of Euromatch as the league’s new sponsor in Abuja, the deal would provide the NPFL with $2.5 million per season, amounting to $7.5 million over the three-year sponsorship period.

“Let me announce to you that the deal is about $2.5m every season from EUROMATCH for three seasons. That is $7.5m,” Elegbeleye said.

“That will help in increasing players’ wages. Of course, we don’t give the money to the clubs ourselves, but 60 per cent goes straight to the clubs. That is the agreement. This must be reflected in the welfare of the footballers.”

For context, the new deal offered by Euromatch equates to $2.5  million per year which is equivalent to N3.3 billion at the current exchange rate of N1,345 to the USD.

Starting from the 2026/27 season, the competition which will officially be renamed the EuroMatch NPFL, complete with a newly unveiled competition logo is set to drive a comprehensive digital overhaul of the league and enhanced fan engagement.
