DR Congo ineligible player
Nigerian football fans on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) are spewing venom online after the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) exposed an email blunder committed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The NFF had complained in a petition that DR Congo fielded ineligible players during the 2026 World Cup African playoff final against Nigeria in a fixture which the Super Eagles lost 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 following extra time in Rabat, Morocco, in November 2025.
The row centres partly on DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi, with reports later claiming that FIFA officials had concerns about whether he had completed the required process to switch his international allegiance from France.
However, FIFA which has denied any eligibility issue concerning DR Congo goalkeeper Mpasi has disclosed that the NFF sent its petition against the player to the wrong email address, preventing the case from being properly considered.
According to reports referencing the National Sports Commission, FIFA also said that the NFF sent its petition against DR Congo to the office of the FIFA general secretary instead of using the legal portal.
The disclosure has forced fans to vent their frustrations online with many decrying perceived maladministration and incompetence from those who are saddled with the responsibility of leading Nigerian football.
In this article, FirstDailySports highlights a select pick of comments on social media by fans who are clamouring for a brighter and better future for the round leather game in Nigeria.

@ibitoyephilipo dithered saying: “It’s tempting to blame the NFF here but FIFA is the villain; a seriously corrupt organisation playing games. Reality is FIFA knew about the ineligible player and they had a responsibility to ask. NFF didn’t need to inform them.”
@tochukwuezeanya chose to blame FIFA saying: “Agreed that the NFF is not competent enough to send an email to a right address but this is a stupid excuse.
“When you know a law has been broken do you even need someone to petition before you act??”
@JohnofRebisi supported the last commentator saying: “Should FIFA’s discipline be dependent on complaints.
“If an FA broke the rules, must they wait for someone to complain before they punish? That’s a stupid logic.”
