Ivory Coast striker Elye Wahi denied entry visa into Canada
Ivory Coast striker Elye Wahi has been denied visa into Canada to play a part in his team’s second Group E fixture against European giants, Germany.
The talented player has been denied entry into Canada due to an ongoing investigation into match-fixing allegations, which falls foul of Canadian immigration rules.
The Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) confirmed in a statement that Wahi had not been permitted entry to Canada for their match against Germany in Toronto because “the administrative authorizations required for his entry into Canadian territory could not be obtained at this point” and that the 23-year-old will remain in the USA pending the team’s return.

Elye Wahi is the second African player to be denied entry into Canada in the last one week.
Recall that Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey was denied entry to Canada before Wednesday’s match in Toronto because of ongoing criminal proceedings in the United Kingdom.
The Ghanaian government sought permission for the Villarreal player to enter the country briefly to take part in the game but that appeal was rejected at a federal court in Ottawa.
