World Cup: Mexico become first team to secure second round ticket
The Mexican national soccer team has emerged as the first side to secure a second round ticket at the ongoing 2026 World Cup following a 1-0 win over Asian powerhouse South Korea.
The soccer team officially secured a second-round (Round of 32) ticket over South Korea at the Guadalajara Stadium, with the El Tri maintaining a perfect record in Group A to guarantee early qualification.
Mexican midfielder Luis Romo scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute capitalizing on a mistake by the South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu who failed to secure a looping ball following a collision with his own defender.

Co-hosts Mexico have captured a maximum of 6 points from two matches, combining their latest victory with an opening-day win over South Africa.
By clinching the top spot early, Javier Aguirre’s men ensure they will play their Round of 32 knockout fixture remaining on home soil at the Mexico City Stadium on June 30, 2026, against a third-placed team.
The final Group A games for both teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will both take place on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. Mexico will clash with Czech Republic while South Korea will trade tackles with South Africa.
