Can Renald revive Tunisia World Cup hopes? New coach takes over

French tactician Harve Renard has declared that the task of taking over as Tunisia’s new head coach at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup is a challenge which will not be easy.

Renard who was speaking to reporters at the team’s training ground just hours after flying into Monterrey said that the Tunisian team needs to improve on its mistakes.

He also noted that the passion around World Cup event was one of the reasons he was motivated to take over the job despite the fact that the challenge would not be easy.

“At the moment we need to be focused on ourselves,” Renard said.

“We still have a few days to be ready.

“It’s a World Cup. I know the passion around this event. That’s what motivated me to come, and it’s a challenge, which isn’t easy.

“I’ve told them they have to keep their heads up; you’re here to represent your country,” Renard added.

The Tunisian Football Federation moved swiftly to appoint the former Zambia and Ivory Coast head coach to lead the Carthage Eagles at the ongoing 2026 World Cup, a day after sacking former international Sabri Lamouchi.

The appointment of the 57-year-old French tactician as the new coach of Tunisia is now recorded as the third time he is leading a different country to the World Cup tournament.

Renard led the Moroccan national team to the 2018 World Cup where he managed one draw and two losses in an early group stage exit.

He also guided Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup to a famous win over Argentina led by Lionel Messi but lost the next two games and failed to qualify for the knockout stage.
