World Cup: We are not afraid of France –Yamal

Lamine Yamal

Spain superstar Lamine Yamal has revealed that the team are not scared of facing France ahead of the World Cup semi-final clash on Tuesday.

France defeated Morocco 2-0 in the quarter-final while Spain pipped Belgium 2-1 to book a place in the last four of the tournament.

The Les Bleus are targeting a third consecutive World Cup final while Spain aims to earn a third consecutive win over France.

Spain have conceded one goal in the tournament while France have scored the most goals with 16 goals.

Yamal said the players are not afraid of the French national team.

He said: “There are two possibilities: either they reach three World Cup finals in a row, or we beat them three times. I don’t know what might happen, but we’re not afraid at all.

“I’m really happy with the win. Back in the semi-finals again. That’s what we came here for – to play these matches and win them. Now it’s time to rest and start thinking about the match against France.”

Yamal has only scored one goal in the tournament but the Barcelona young star is not worried about his return in the tournament.

He said: “Obviously I wanted to score because it helps the team, but I don’t go out onto the pitch thinking about that. If I win the World Cup, I don’t think anyone’s going to remember how many goals I’ve scored or missed.

“If we win, we’ll all be happy. If I win the player of the match award, all the better, but above all, I want the team to win.

“I think the whole goal business has got into everyone’s heads, and we won the European Championship with me scoring just one goal. I only scored one goal then, and I’ve already scored one this time. They can rest easy.”

Both sides have met 38 times with Spain winning 18, while France earned 13 victories and seven encounters ended in draws.

Spain have reached their first World Cup semi-final since winning in 2010.
