Super Falcons receive $60k goal bonus after thrashing Egypt
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have received a massive $60,000 goal bonus following their 6-2 thrashing of Egypt in their last Group C encounter at the ongoing Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Recall earlier that the National Sports Commission (NSC) promised the sum of $5,000 for every goal scored at the tournament beginning with the team’s first group game against Malawi.
However, the performance-based incentive was increased from $5,000 to $10,000 following Nigeria’s 6-2 win over Egypt on Wednesday which secured the Falcons a ticket to the next round of the competition.
The increment by the NSC was made known by Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau who announced that the move was in recognition of the team’s outstanding performances at the tournament.
The revised incentive which will further motivate the players for the knockout stages means that the Super Falcons have now earned the sum of $60,000 from their six goals against Egypt alone in the tournament.

In a related development, former coach of the Super Falcons, Kadiri Ikhana has warned the team not to be complacent in their next quarterfinal knockout game against Cameroon.
According to Ikhana, the Super Falcons have not played well at the WAFCON and may lose against the Cameroonians on Sunday if they do not raise the standards of the game.
He said; “Super Falcons have not impressed so far in the championship, and I don’t see them beating Cameroon if they fail to raise their game when they clash in the quarter-finals on Sunday, August 9.
“I just hope the Super Falcons find their rhythm again, reach the semi-finals and pick a World Cup ticket.
“Surprisingly, Super Falcons have struggled in all three group matches, even losing to debutants Malawi to finish behind the group winners.
“I don’t really know why our girls have not been at their best so far. They should realise that a World Cup ticket is at stake, and we cannot afford to miss the chance of qualifying for the World Cup.” Ikhana warned.
