Relegated Remo Stars vow immediate return to NPFL
Remo Stars Football Club of Ikenne have vowed that it will immediately return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after the team was relegated following an underwhelming season.
The club got relegated following a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance on the final day of the 2025/2026 season as the team’s fate was sealed after results elsewhere went against them.
Remo Stars which won the league last season for the first time finished the 38-game season with 47 points, tied with Kwara United, however, an inferior goal difference ultimately dragged them into relegation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the team admitted that the outcome of the season turned out to be very disappointing for everybody connected to the club, including supporters, players, staff and management who have invested emotions into the club.
Remo Stars also noted that the team didn’t deliver the performance and consistency required to maintain its place in the division but vowed to focus on returning the club to its rightful place
“Following the conclusion of the 2025-26 NPFL season, Remo Stars will now compete in the Nigeria National League, NNL, next season,” Remo Stars wrote in a statement.

“The outcome of the season is very disappointing for everybody connected to the club, supporters, players, staff and management who have invested emotions into the journey.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration this season has brought, the expectation attached to this club are high.
“We didn’t deliver the performance and consistency required to maintain our place in the division.
“Important decisions will be made and every effort will be directed towards returning the club to where it belong.” The statement concluded.
Remo Stars now joins other clubs including; Bayelsa United, defunct Stationary Stores and Shooting Stars as reigning NPFL champions to suffer relegation.
