The head coach of the Ghanaian national team Carlos Quieroz has blamed his team’s 1-0 loss to Colombia in a Round of 32 World Cup game to an early injury sustained by defender Marvin Senaya.

Quieroz who was fielding questions from journalists after the nail biting game played at the Kansas City Stadium said that the injury sustained by the player caused defensive disorganization for his team.

He noted that the opponents led by Bayern Munich winger Luiz Diaz controlled the games passing and movements better, making it hard for the Black Stars to execute their game plan.

The coach said; “The quality of our passes was not what we expected. We made a lot of mistakes and conceded counter attacks.

“They scored in one moment that the team was not organised.

“The moment Senaya came off, the team did not have the same discipline and organisation.” Quieroz noted.

When asked about his future following Ghana’s exit from the World Cup, the 73-year-old coach offered a light answer.

“What’s next for me is to have a glass of water and relax, refresh for the next morning and start to make other decisions.”

A 14th-minute far-post tap-in goal scored by Jhon Arias was all that Colombia needed to win the game and end Black Stars’ World Cup campaign thus setting up a tough Round of 16 game against Switzerland in the city of Vancouver.
