Monaco activate €11m buy option clause for Ansu Fati signing

Ansu Fati

French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco has secured the permanent signing of Ansu Fati from Spanish club, FC Barcelona with the deal said to be in its final stages.

After battling persistent injuries early in his career at Barcelona, Fati successfully revitalized his form in Ligue 1 during the 2025–26 season.

Monaco decided to proceed with buy option clause worth €11m for Fati’s deal to turn permanent after the player scored 11 goals in his first Ligue 1 season.

Reports say that Barcelona will maintain a sell-on clause as soon as terms are finalised also with the player prepared to stay with Felipe Luis as new coach of the Monte Carlo based team.

The arrival of Anthony Gordon at Barcelona for €80 million may have closed the door on Fati’s return to the Spotify Camp Nou, facilitating his permanent stay in France.

Fati initially exploded onto the global scene with Barcelona in 2019, shattering numerous youngest-goalscorer records and famously inheriting Lionel Messi’s number 10 shirt in 2021.

Severe knee and hamstring injuries heavily disrupted his development in Spain and during a brief loan stint with Brighton & Hove Albion before he secured a move to Monaco.
