Fans on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) are divided over Arsenal’s push to sign Argentina striker, Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid in a blockbuster move worth millions of pounds.
The 26-year-old striker who formerly plied his trade with English Premier League club Manchester City has made it clear that he wants to leave Atletico Madrid and heavily favours a move to Spanish rivals FC Barcelona.
However, Atletico Madrid has stated in clear terms that they are not going to sell Alvarez who began his football career in native Argentina to a rival Spanish club and would rather deal with a foreign club.
Atletico’s stance has now opener the door for Arsenal football club who are willing to surpass their club-record £105 million transfer fee to bring the Argentine professional footballer back to England.
While Alvarez (who got booed and jeered by club fans in a weekend game against Villarreal for forcing a move away from the club) initially resisted a return to England due to personal visa reasons, the toxic atmosphere at his present club could force him to have a rethink.
Fans on X are however skeptical about the player’s attitude while forcing a move to his dream club, Barcelona with some suggesting that if he moves to London, the player may just as well force a move to Barcelona after one or two seasons at Arsenal.
However others are confident that the player would be a good fit for Arsenal’s striking position and the move may turn out to be history repeating itself again after Atletico refused to strengthen their city rivals, Real Madrid when Sergio Aguero in 2011 requested a move but the club allowed him to join Manchester City instead fifteen years ago.
