Finidi eyes bigger goals as Rivers Utd seal CAFCL spot again
Former Super Eagles winger Finidi George is delighted that his team Rivers United have secured back-to-back CAF Champions League qualification with a game to spare in the 2025/2026 NPFL season.
Finidi who doubles as the Technical Manager of the team shared thoughts on the development after Rivers United defeated Wikki Tourists 2-1 in a roller coaster game played at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi on Sunday.
He expressed satisfaction with his team’s achievement of qualifying for the CAF Champions League for the second consecutive season, but he emphasized that the team should now concentrate on winning the league.

“It’s a good qualification that has been secured. Now, we’ve to see how we can win the (NPFL) league title,” Finidi told reporters during a post match press conference after the match.
“Getting a CAF Champions League qualification two years in a row is outstanding, you know. That’s a good job. Most teams are looking for this position but it hasn’t been forthcoming. So, we’ve to commend the players for their mentality in qualifying for the CAF Champions League back-to-back. Its indeed very remarkably outstanding.”
The win over Wikki Tourists places Rivers United who are second on the league table in a strong position heading into the final game of the season against Katsina United, while league leaders Rangers will be away to Ikorodu United in the final day of the season.
