Fernandes named 2026 PFA player of the year
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) player of the year following a record-breaking 2025-26 season.
The Portuguese broke the Premier League assists record in May with 21 assists, the highest in a single season in the history of the division.
The award was presented at the 53rd annual PFA Awards ceremony at the Manchester Opera House in Manchester, United Kingdom, on Tuesday.
Fernandes pipped the likes of Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, Declan Rice, David Raya, and Gabriel Magalhães to the award.
He also won the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year and the Premier League’s Player of the Season at the end of last season.
Manchester City’s Bunny Shaw won the women’s category of the Players’ Player of the Year after leading the club to the WSL last season.
It was a double celebration for Man City as Nico O’Reilly was also named men’s young player of the year following a impressive season at the Etihad.

Karen Carney and Kenny Dalglish were honoured with PFA Merit Awards for their contributions to English football.
Premier League champions Arsenal had five players in the team of the season, four Man City players also made the list while Igor Thiago and Bruno Fernandes completed the cast.
