The coach of the national team of DR Congo, Sebastien Desabre has expressed disappointment after his team narrowly lost to Colombia in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Group K game.

Colombia who heavily dominated possession and offensive momentum throughout the game defeated DR Congo 1-0 at the Estadio Guadalajara to officially secure their spot in the Round of 32.

However, Colombia was made to suffer to get the only goal of the game as the team found it really difficult to break down the Congolese defense, despite creating 20 shots and having multiple goals disallowed for offside and foul calls.

DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi racked up 8 crucial saves to keep his team alive but he could do nothing to stop Daniel Muñoz’s goal in the 76th minute of the match following a clever assist from substitute Juan Fernando Quintero.

Speaking after the game, Desabre praised the heroics of goalkeeper Mpasi for his “excellent” performance and ability to keep a strong Colombian attack at bay for most of the match, stating,

“I am disappointed with the narrow loss. Our goalkeeper was excellent today. But I’m not surprised. He has been playing well for us.”

Both teams will play their final 2026 FIFA World Cup Group K matches on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with Colombia locking horns with Portugal while DR Congo will battle Uzbekistan.
