Chukwueze embraces new role under Amorim at Milan
Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is looking forward to playing a new role under new AC Milan coach, Ruben Amorim, ahead of the 2026-27 Serie A season.
The Portuguese coach has been playing Chukwueze as a wing-back in his 3-4-3 formation and he was the star of the show when AC Milan defeated Manchester United 4-2 on Saturday.
He scored a goal and recorded two assists to impress Amorim in his new role ahead of the new season.
Chukwueze is determined to take advantage of the first team opportunity handed to him by Amorim as a wing-back.
He said: “Amorim is a good coach. He trusts me, so he gave me an opportunity. Now it’s up to me to seize it. He simply gave me faith, and I think I have to take advantage of it. I can’t waste this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, returning to Milan after my loan.
“Although it’s a position I have to adapt to because I’ve never played in this position in my career. As a footballer, if a coach wants you to play in this position, you have to do it by believing in yourself and in the coach, because he knows what he wants.
“So I just have to keep working hard, believing in myself and that I can do it. For me, it’s an opportunity I have to seize. I know it’s a difficult task, but I believe in myself. I know I can do it, that I can do anything.”

The 27-year-old was delighted with AC Milan’s performance against Manchester United and he has promised to keep learning the ropes of the new position.
Chukwueze concluded: “Yes, a lot. For me, I think it’s something I need to work on. It’s my first time playing in this position, so I’m continuing to work hard. I need to improve every practice. I think the coaching staff is helping me.
“The coach is helping me too. Every time I make a mistake, he tells me, ‘Oh, Chukwueze, this is what you have to do.’ So I think I’ll improve before the season starts.”
Chukwueze spent last season on loan at Premier League side Fulham, scoring three goals and four assists for the London club.
He has scored nine goals and recorded six assists in 73 appearances for AC Milan in all competitions.
AC Milan finished fifth last season under Max Allegri and they will begin the new season with an away clash against Torino on Sunday.
