Arsenal vs Coventry City

The 2026/27 English Premier League kicks off today with the champions Arsenal FC squaring up against new comers, Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal tutored by Spanish coach Mikel Arteta enter the EPL opener against Coventry as favourites to snatch all three points at stake in the game after thrashing Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield.

Arteta has already declared that the duo of Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice have both been passed fit for the game, but also informed that William and Jurrien Timber remain out injured.

New signing Bruno Guimarães who moved from Newcastle United also faces a late fitness test for the game after picking up a minor thigh issue in the Community Shield encounter against Manchester City according to Arteta.

Coventry City also have issues of their own after Frank Lampard informed in a pre-match conference that star striker, Hajj Wright has been ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a quad injury. The club also has fitness concerns over Luke Woolfenden, Frank Onyeka and Jack Rudoni.

However, the unavailability of striker, Haji Wright now gives Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, who signed from Nottingham Forest, the opportunity to lead the line for Coventry City in today’s encounter.

Both teams are now poised to slug it out in the much-anticipated game but the injury issues suffered by Coventry City who are back in the top flight after 25-years casts doubts about their ability to cause an upset against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium today.

Only 90 minutes of play will determine if Coventry City tutored by Lampard can cause an upset by defeating Arsenal in this encounter with the reigning champions set to kick off by 8:00 PM Nigerian time.
