World number one Sinner ruled out of US Open
Tennis World number one Jannik Sinner has been ruled out of the 2026 US Open tournament due to a knee injury.
The Italian star has been out of action since winning the Wimbledon Open in July and also missed the ongoing Cincinnati Open.
Sinner announced on social media on Friday that he will miss the final Grand Slam of the season due to a right knee injury.
He wrote on Instagram: “Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year.
“We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue.
“I’m obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart.
“I was very much looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of the great fans there.”

This is the first time that Sinner has missed a Grand Slam tournament since he made his major debut at the 2019 US Open.
He won the US Open title in 2024 and lost in the final to Carlos Alcaraz in 2025.
It would be recalled that Sinner’s rival, Carlos Alcaraz announced on Thursday that he will would participate at the US Open after missing four months of action due to a wrist injury.
Sinner has enjoyed a successful 2026, recording an impressive record of 44 wins, three losses and winning six titles.
The US Open main draw begins on Sunday, 30 August.
