Super Falcons
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has voiced concerns over Nigeria’s build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, citing disruptions to the team’s preparations.
In a post on Instagram on Thursday, Ajibade lamented the pace at which the Nigeria Football Federation is going regarding the coming tournament.
The tournament, set to be hosted in Morocco, was rescheduled by the Confederation of African Football from March to July, altering the team’s initial plans.
Yet in addition to the shift, Nigeria’s recent schedule has also been unsettled.
Recall the Super Falcons played friendlies against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses during the last international window, but a planned double-header against Cape Verde next week was cancelled after their opponents withdrew.
While the Nigeria Football Federation is still searching for replacements, Ajibade has made public her frustrations ahead of the tournament which will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“We are just preparing for the women’s African Cup of nations, we are also fighting for World Cup qualification…so why are we not preparing with the seriousness and intensity this demands…abeg wetin be all this one, for how long?” Ajibade questioned.
Despite the limited warmup matches and uncertainty around fixtures, Nigeria’s women team aim to defend their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
