Arsenal management
Reigning English Premier League (EPL) champions Arsenal FC reportedly fought tooth and nail to secure the signature of Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr but the player eventually extended his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for another six years.
Despite a mouth-watering deal from Arsenal, Vinicius Jr eventually signed an extension with Real Madrid after the club were forced to raise their offer for the player – an agreement which was reached following 18 months of talks with the player that failed to produce a breakthrough.
The 26-year-old professional footballer who signed until 2032 accepted a salary increase, after tax, from £12.8m-a-year to about £20.5m-a-year with bonuses at Real Madrid, despite it being less than the £25.7m he initially wanted.
Arsenal offered a similar financial package to encourage him to reject Real Madrid’s proposal but the player ultimately decided to remain at Real Madrid for the next six years.
The development has now forced Arsenal to seek other alternatives following the departure of Belgium wing-forward Leandro Trossard to Turkish side, Besiktas and the uncertain future of Brazilian winger, Gabriel Martinelli at the London club.
