Usyk’s camp rejects Fury’s back-up challenge after calling off Joshua fight
The team representing Ukrainian boxer Oleksandra Usyk have rejected a backup challenge offered by British boxer Tyson Fury after he called off his much-expected boxing showdown with his compatriot Anthony Joshua.
Days ago, Fury declared that his proposed November fight with Anthony Joshua is off and instead called out Usyk for a trilogy boxing encounter.
According to reports, Fury’s fight with Joshua stalled over location disagreement with negotiations hitting a roadblock over the venue for the anticipated boxing showdown.
Joshua’s camp preferred Wembley Stadium in the UK, while organizers pushed for the fight to take place at the Madison Square Garden in the USA.

Frustrated by delays, Fury claimed on Instagram that Joshua has backed out of the showdown and also used the social media platform to call out Usyk for a trilogy fight.
However, Usyk’s camp has rejected the proposal. Sergey Lapin, who heads Team Usyk, said that his client is not Fury’s back-up plan, and if he needs an opponent, he should visit the Ready to Fight platform.
“Usyk is not Tyson’s back-up plan,” he said. “If Fury needs an opponent, he should visit the Ready to Fight platform. They can help him find a worthy opponent there. Oleksandr is always open to big challenges. But serious intentions are backed by a concrete offer, not statements in the press or social media.”
The decision to call off the Fury and Tyson Fight and Usyk’s refusal to serve as a back-up plan now leaves the heavyweight boxing picture in an uncertain state moving forward.
