Super Falcons first half performance against Comoros worrisome –Eguavoen

Austin Eguavoen

Super Falcons interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has admitted the team’s first half performance against Comoros was worrisome despite the 2-0 victory.

Nigeria failed to find the breakthrough in a frustrating first half which left Eguavoen nervous.

However, Michelle Alozie, and Uchenna Kanu scored in the second half to give the Super Falcons a 2-0 win in the first leg.

Eguavoen was far from pleased with the team’s first half performance.

He said: “I was nervous at the start because it’s an away game, a draw away from home would be good, but for our pedigree and the quality we have, forget the names of the countries, we played them with utmost respect, but first half barren nil-nil was worrisome,” Eguavoen admitted at the post-match press conference.

“I knew at some point we would score, it was just a matter of time, because we dominated from the beginning to the end of the first half.

“They gave us a good fight, but we showed our superiority.”

Both teams will clash again in the second leg on Tuesday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

Eguavoen handed a starting berth to immediate past U20 skipper Joy Igbokwe, who anchored the midfield to earn her senior debut.

The winner of the tie will face Morocco in the third round of the Olympic qualification series
