How fans are reacting to Chelsea’s sixth straight league defeat

Reactions have continued to trail Chelsea’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Monday afternoon.

The Blues continued their poor run of form to suffer a sixth straight loss in the English top-flight against a second-string Nottingham Forest side.

Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring in the second minute with a glancing header before Igor Jesus added the second goal from the penalty spot after Malo Gusto fouled Awoniyi in the box.

Awoniyi completed his brace with a tap-in from Morgan Gibbs-White’s cross.

Nottingham Forest coach Vitor Pereira made eight changes to the team that defeated Aston Villa 1-0 in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday. But Chelsea failed to take advantage as they produced a shambolic performance in the first half.

Interim manager Calum McFarlane handed teenager Jesse Derry his Premier League debut but his afternoon was cut short when he suffered a nasty injury following a collision with Zach Abbott both players had to be stretchered off.

João Pedro ended 550-minute run without a league goal that stretched back to early March with a spectacular overhead kick effort to reduce the deficit but it was too little too late as Nottingham Forest grabbed the maximum points.

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira was delighted with his team’s performance while also heaping praises on Taiwo Awoniyi.

He said: “Taiwo is a dangerous player. He is not on the list in the Europa League but we know he will push the defensive line of the opponents because he runs, attacks the space, holds the ball and this is the kind of spirit and the smile and energy we need in this team.

“The only thing I’m sad about is the injury of [Morgan] Gibbs-White. The speed of the team, we can change the players, but the speed will be there.

“We are a team that want to keep our future in our hands and to do that we need to win games and not to be worried with the results of the other teams. If we win, we keep the distance and today another game, they proved again the speed, the quality and organisation. I am very happy for them and the players and the supporters.”

Chelsea coach Callum McFarlane expressed his disappointment after another poor performance from Chelsea.

He said: “A really disappointing result and performance. The first 15 minutes was not good enough. That set the tone.

“It’s hard to say [why it went wrong at the moment, I’d probably like to review the game to look at such a stark contract to the way we defended against Leeds.

“Enzo Fernandez hits the post and Cole Palmer misses the penalty; when you have such a bad start you need those kinds of moments to go in your favour and unfortunately they didn’t.”

Chelsea have lost six consecutive league games for the fourth time in their history, and for the first time since November, 1993.

Similarly, Chelsea fans took to social media to slam the team’s lame showing against Nottingham Forest.

Chettri blamed the Blueco ownership for Chelsea’s poor performances while calling for them to leave the club.

He wrote on X: “Chelsea are worse off now than they were 4 years ago, that’s how bad things are. Even if BlueCo tried to fix it, it would take at least 4 years to properly rebuild… but I doubt they’ll ever actually manage to turn it around. #BlueCoOUT”

9ja football blog believes the problem is deeper than the players and the coaches, claiming that Pep Guardiola won’t change the club’s fortunes.

He wrote on X: “This is quite terrible, with all the investments on players and managers, this is the lowest of lows.

“Chelsea are now out of Champions league contention, this is more than just the players not playing well, there’s a deeper problem which must be discovered and resolved, otherwise even if you bring in Pep Guardiola to manage the team, the results still won’t be different.”

Mutiu Alabi described Chelsea’s situation as a free fall while calling on the club to change their structure.

He wrote on X: “This is what is referred to as a free fall. It is a pity to see a club as great as Chelsea going through this very bad spell. This might be the worst the club has ever gone through.

“Money only does not buy you wins and trophies. Structure matters the most. When the structure meets money, then the perfect balance is struck. See Barca, structure without money, still dominates the domestic league but not much to show in the champions league. Dear Chelsea, work on your structure.”

Chelsea will be hoping to bounce back from the defeat when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday while Nottingham Forest battle it out with Newcastle United on Sunday.
