Record Watch: Chelsea players who scored 20 goals or more in a season

Joao Pedro scored his 20th goal of the season for Chelsea in the 3-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Monday to join an illustrious list of players who have hit that number while playing for Chelsea.

The sensational acrobatic effort was Pedro’s 20th goal of the season for Chelsea after he joined from Brighton last summer, and the goal was their first goal in six matches.

Pedro joins a proud company which includes Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Fernando Torres, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and Eden Hazard.

A total of 11 Chelsea players have scored 20 goals or more in the club’s history but in this piece, First Daily Sports’ Taiwo Ibrahim takes a look at six of them.

João Pedro (2025/26)

Pedro has been one of Chelsea’s best player in a an underwhelming season. He scored the Blues’ first goal of the Premier League season against West Ham in a 5-0 victory.

He has gone on to score 15 Premier League goals, three in the Champions League and two in the FA Cup.

Pedro has three more games to go in the Premier League to add to his tally.

He is the only player in the Premier League to have scored 15 goals or more without one penalty this season.

He is also the first Chelsea striker to score 20+ goals in a season since Diego Costa.

Cole Palmer (2023-24 Season)

Cole Palmer enjoyed an impressive debut season at Stamford Bridge scoring 27 goals in all competitions to endear himself to the supporters.

He bagged 22 Premier League goals, and recorded 11 assists with two hat-tricks and a four-goal haul against Everton.

The England international also scored two goals in the FA Cup and three goals in the Carabao Cup.

He also equaled Lampard’s 22-goal Premier League record for a single Chelsea season.

Palmer became the 13th player in Premier League history to score 20 or more goals and provide 10 or more assists in the same season.

He won the Premier League Young Player of the Season and PFA Fans’ Player of the Year awards for his outstanding first season at Chelsea while also being nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season and the FWA Footballer of the Year.

Eden Hazard ( 2018-19 Season)

Chelsea legend Eden Hazard scored 21 goals in all competitions for the club in his final season, capping off a brilliant campaign with a match-winning performance in the Europa League final against Arsenal

He scored 16 goals in the Premier League, it was his most productive league season in the division , he bagged two in the Europa League and the three in the Carabao Cup.

Overall, he scored 21 goals, and recorded 17 assists in all competitions to join the illustrious group.

He was included in the ESM Team of the Season for his performances in the 2018–19 season, as well as the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 for 2018 and 2019.

He also won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award as well as every individual Chelsea award, the only player in the club’s history to do so.

Diego Costa ( 2014-15, 2016-17 Seasons)

Diego Costa scored 20 Premier League goals in the 2014-15 season despite playing only 26 matches.

He also added one more goal in the League Cup to lead Chelsea to the trophy and also the Premier League title in his first season.

Costa holds the record for most goals in his first four Premier League matches, surpassing the tally of six by both Sergio Agüero and Micky Quinn.

The Spanish striker also repeated the same feat in the 2016-2017 season when he scored 22 goals in all competitions.

He scored 20 goals in the Premier League to lead Chelsea to the title under Antonio Conte while chipping in two goals in the FA Cup.

Overall, Costa scored 59 goals for Chelsea in all competitions before returning to Atletico Madrid in 2017.

Frank Lampard (2005/06, 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10 Seasons)

Frank Lampard became Chelsea’s all-time top scorer with 211 goals before leaving the club in 2014.

He scored 20 goals or more in a remarkable five consecutive seasons between 2005 and 2010.

He is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Premier League’s history.

Lampard holds the record of the most Premier League goals (177) by a midfielder in its history.

He Won multiple major trophies, including: three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, and also the UEFA Europa League.

Didier Drogba – (2006/07 and 2009/10 Seasons)

Didier Drogba etched his name in gold during his time at Chelsea, scoring important goals while also winning numerous trophies.

In the 2006-07 season, Drogba scored 20 goals to lead Chelsea to the Premier League title while also winning the Premier League top scorer award.

In doing so, he became the first Chelsea player since Kerry Dixon in 1984–85 to reach 30 goals in a season.

He scored 33 goals in all competitions that season, with 20 coming in the Premier League, six in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and four in the League Cup.

In the 2009-10 season, he also finished as the Premier League top scorer with 29 goals, and enjoyed his most prolific season with 37 goals in all competitions.

He scored five goals in the Champions League and three goals in the FA Cup to lead Chelsea to a domestic double under Carlo Ancelotti.
