Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso has expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Blues suffered their first home loss of the season against their London rivals after a disappointing performance.

Chelsea failed to convert their chances before Mike Penders scored an own goal and Mathys Tel scored the second goal to wrap up the victory.

Alonso admitted that his team did not play well in the encounter.

He said: “We are all disappointed with the result, the performance. Collectively and individually we were not at our best level. The first goal went their way and with 10 men it went away.

“Talking about chances is the main thing. They had few. We had a few. We had a good chance with Pedro. We spoke at halftime about being patient and mature because they were good with the ball and we had to not lose shape. 1-0 changed the whole dynamic.

“When we regained the ball high, we had some chances in the first half, one from Cole. We could’ve been more aggressive in situations. The idea was going high, being more aggressive.”

It was Tottenham’s second win at Stamford Bridge in 36 years as Roberto De Zerbi’s men won their second Premier League match of the season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham coach, Roberto De Zerbi boasted that his side deserved to win against Chelsea.

“I think we deserved to win. The players worked very well and prepared very well for the game. This morning, yesterday, all days in the last week and the quality of the players are very clear. I’m happy for the spirit of the players.”

In the other Premier League matches on Saturday, Aston Villa defeated Man City 2-1, Fulham recorded a 1-0 win over Coventry City.

Tottenham will return to Premier League action on Saturday, while Chelsea will face Manchester United on the same day.
