Guardiola says City won’t give up on title after thrashing Brentford 3-0
Manchester City recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to pile pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
The hosts recovered from the disappointing 3-3 draw against Everton on Monday with a comprehensive performance to reduce Arsenal’s lead to two points.
The first half ended goalless with Brentford making life difficult for Man City but Pep Guardiola’s side turned the tide around in the second half.
Jeremy Doku continued his impressive form with a sublime finish into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Haaland scrambled in the second goal with 15 minutes to go before Omar Marmoush added gloss to the victory in the 92nd minute.
City extended their unbeaten run at home in the league to 16 games, having suffered defeat in their opening game at Etihad Stadium to Spurs back in August.
Guardiola showered encomiums on in-form winger Jeremy Doku, who scored his fourth goal in his last three matches in all competitions.
He said: “Jeremy is outstanding in many things. Looks like a final product already and of course he can improve.

“Always had this incredible ability to dribble and to make action and connection, it’s outstanding.
“But now it’s winning games. I’m so incredibly pleased to have a guy that brings energy and that can score goals.”
The Spanish manager reiterated that the club will not give up on the Premier League title race despite the two points between them and Arsenal with the Gunners set to play West Ham on Sunday.
Guardiola said: “We will see, that is not in our hands. We will do our job. We didn’t do it perfectly with Everton. We will do our job and wait.
“We suffered in the first minutes today but after that we played a really good game. Especially left side in the first half, both sides in the second.
“Everton was the real proof, 3-1 down and emotions. The second half we give away. It happened last season many times, now we’re more solid but we still give away.
“That’s football, it’s how you react. I’m pleased for the way we have done it.”
Man City will return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace on Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium.
