Onuachu’s brace earns Trabzonspor Turkish Cup title

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu was the star of the show as his brace earned Trabzonspor a 2-1 win over Konyaspor in the Turkish Cup Final played on Friday night.

The gangling forward opened his goal account in the game when he slammed home a brilliant volley inside the box off a cross from the right wing in the 18th minute of the game, thus ending his nine game goal drought.

However, Konyaspor drew level in the game five minutes into the second half when Democratic Republic of Congo player Jackson Muleka found the back of the net.

Konyaspor later had the chance to go ahead in the gams when a penalty was awarded against Trabzonspor but Enis Bardhi who took the resultant spot kick missed his attempt.

Moments after Konyaspor missed the chance to take the lead in the game, Trabzonspor were awarded a penalty and Onuachu made no mistake when he scored a spot kick to give his team a 2-1 lead in the encounter.

Trabzonspor which also featured Super Egles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu held their opponents at bay till the end of the game thus earning the club its 10th Cup title since first winning the competition in 1977.

The 2025/2006 season has turned out to be an eventful season for Onuachu who emerged as the joint top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig after netting no fewer than 22 goals and two assists in 30 league matches this season for Trabzonspor.
