Nigeria win women’s 4x400m relay gold, 200m sprint silver in Accra

Team Nigeria secured gold in the women’s 4x400m relay at the African Senior Athletics Championships holding in Accra, Ghana, on Sunday.

The Nigerian quartet of Esther Okon, Toheebat Jimoh, Jecinter Lawrence, and Patience Okon-George delivered an impressive performance, finishing in 3:29.25 to clinch first place.

Nigeria crossed the finish line comfortably ahead of Ethiopia, who settled for silver, while Kenya took bronze.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe emerged victorious in the men’s 4x400m final, with Kenya earning silver and Morocco claiming bronze.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria had bagged another podium finish, with Rosemary Chukwuma winning a silver medal in the women’s 200m final.

The continental championship ran from May 12 to 17 in the capital of Ghana, and has successfully come to an end on Sunday. It was a fine outing for Team Nigeria although the organisers are yet to publish the official medals table.

The victory ensured Team Nigeria ended the competition with four gold, five silver and three bronze medals, placing fourth overall behind Kenya, South Africa and Ethiopia.

However, the official medals table is yet to be published by the organisers.
