Amusan wins third gold medal at African Athletics Championships
Nigeria’s Queen of the Track, Tobi Amusan won the gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the ongoing African Athletics Championships in Accra on Wednesday.
Amusan produced a dominant performance to win the race after leading the pack from the beginning to the end ahead of Zimbabwe’s Ashley Miller and compatriot Adaobi Tabugbo, who finished third.
It was Tabugbo’s first individual medal for Nigeria.
Amusan has now won the gold medal for the third time at the African Athletics Championships following her victory in 2018, and 2022.
She dominated the race in the heats and the semi-final with the fastest times before producing another dominant performance in the final.
The official time for the final has not been released by the organisers as they battled with a dysfunctional timing system, absence of live results, incomplete results without wind readings and inconsistent disqualifications to the dismay of the athletes.

Nigeria’s Rosemary Chukwuma also won the silver medal after losing the 100m gold medal to Cameroon’s Kole Etame as Liberia’s Thelma Davies won the bronze medal.
Chidera Ezeakor won the bronze medal in the men’s 100m final after finishing third behind Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme and South Africa’s Nkoana Bradley.
Nigeria has now won six medals at the African Athletics Championships with one gold, two silver and three bronze.
Amusan was delighted to win the gold medal while setting her sights on the next race.
She said: “First, I will say all thanks to God. I don’t know what the time is, but I got the win — that’s all that matters — and I’m looking forward to the next race.
“The goal is to get racing, and this is my season opener. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
