Glasgow ’26: Enekwechi wins Shot Put gold as Amusan settles for bronze
It was a mixed showing for Nigeria on Thursday night as Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won the team’s eighth gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games while Tobi Amusan ended up with the Bronze medal.
Enekwechi produced a best throw of 21.07m to finish ahead of New Zealand’s Tom Walsh, who won the silver medal with a time of 21.03m, and England’s Scott Lincoln, who grabbed the bronze medal with a throw of 20.99m.
He became the first Nigerian to win a gold medal in the men’s shot put at the games.
It was a disappointing outing for Tobi Amusan, who failed to defend her 100m title following a poor start in the race.

Amusan finished third behind Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton and Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds, who won the silver medal.
It would be recalled that Amusan defeated Charlton to win the Gold medal in 2022.
She missed out of the opportunity to become the first woman to win a third consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Team Nigeria has now won a total of 16 medals at the Commonwealth Games with eight gold, five silver, and three bronze.
