Brazil star Neymar has been ruled out of action for three weeks with a calf injury and he is likely to miss his country’s 2026 World Cup opener.

Neymar teamed up with the team on Tuesday but was unable to train the following day after feeling pains in his calf.

Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar confirmed Neymar’s injury in a press conference on Thursday.

He said: “Neymar underwent all the medical tests, which concluded with an MRI scan revealing a grade two calf injury, not just swelling. He is expected to be cleared in two to three weeks.”

Neymar is now expected to miss Brazil’s friendly matches against Panama and Egypt before their first game against Morocco on June 13.

He has not played for his country since 2023 after suffering an ACL tear in October 2023 while on international duty.

Brazil will slug it out with the likes of Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in Group C at the 2026 World Cup.
