Neto eyes strong World Cup run after Portugal beat Nigeria

Portugal winger Pedro Neto is eyeing a successful World Cup campaign with his team following Wedneday’s friendly win against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria.

Neto opened scoring in the game with a stunning strike in the 23rd minute which saw the Portuguese team dominate the football match.

The Super Eagles equalised a gew minutes after against a Portugal led by Cristiano Ronaldo when Fisayo Dele-Bashiru laid a pass for burly Sevilla striker Akor Adams to score.

However, Portugal had the last laugh as Juventus winger Francisco Conceição struck a stunning shot from the right wing past Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to put the scores at 2-1.

Portugal held on to win the game despite a late charge by the Eagles to even scores. While reflecting on the game, Neto said that he is satisfied with the performance put up by his team.

Neto whose goal against Nigeria was his first for club and country in four months also said that he is eyeing a successful campaign with the Portuguese national team at the World Cup.

“We come away with good feelings, two games, two wins. That’s what we wanted. We dealt with our processes, things to improve. We are focused on what’s coming to make the dream come true. God willing, we will succeed,” Neto said after the game.

“Without a doubt. These games serve to assimilate ideas. In the Mexico training camp, some players were missing; we hadn’t been together for a long time. But we will be prepared.”

He also commented on his goal scored against Nigeria saying he found himself in an area that was not his favourite but he was able to score a stunning goal.

“I found myself in an area that isn’t my favorite, but it has to be that way. I’m very happy to help the team,” added Neto.
