Broos proud of South Africa’s performance despite Czech Republic draw

South Africa coach Hugo Broos has hailed his team’s performance despite their 1-1 draw against Czech Republic on Thursday in their second Group A clash.

The Bafana Bafana lost their first match against Mexico and they needed a late goal to snatch a point to avoid defeat.

For the second consecutive game, South Africa conceded an early goal in the sixth minute when Michal Sadilek fired Czech Republic into the lead in the sixth minute.

South Africa struggled to trouble their opponents with their first shot on target coming in the 74th minute.

Teboho Mokoena finally dragged the Bafana Bafana back into the game from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute after Thapelo Maseko’s shot hit Pavel Sulc’s arm.

Both sides failed to find the winner as they settled for a 1-1 draw.

It would be recalled that both sides lost their first match of the tournament, South Africa fell 2-0 to Mexico while Czech Republic lost 2-1 to South Korea.

South Africa coach, Hugo Broos, was delighted with his team’s performance in the encounter.

He said: “I am very proud of my team when you see the reaction after the game of Mexico. We play good football. We are aggressive, we had chances, but you need a bit of luck.”

South Africa will face South Korea on Thursday while the Czech Republic take on Mexico on the same day.
