Cape Verde goalie Vozinha to reunite with mum at World Cup
Celebrated Cape Verde goalkeeper is set to be reunited with his mother, Ana Candida Evora, who is set to travel to Miami to watch her son’s next World Cup match against Uruguay on Sunday.
Recall that while fielding questions from newsmen after Cape Verde held Spain to a 0-0 draw, Vozinha expressed deep sadness that his late grandparents, who raised him, and his mother were not there to witness his lifetime achievement on the world stage.
According to Vozinha, his mother was unable to attend the match in the US due to visa processing issues and financial costs of flying her over to witness the World Cup.
He said, “I cried because I grew up with my grandfather and grandparents. Unfortunately, they are not here. They died a few years ago, and they meant everything to me.
“They gave everything while they were still alive. My mum was also one of the reasons I shed tears because she couldn’t be here because of visa issues and funds for her to fly over to witness the World Cup.

“We couldn’t manage to raise funds to make sure she was here, but I am very happy for the people of Cape Verde following 0-0 against Spain,” the player added.
However, following international attention and diplomatic intervention, the visa fees for Vozinha’s mother have been waived and travel her travel to the US has been arranged.
Reports say that the State Department and U.S. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries stepped in to expedite the visa process and waive the fees so she could attend the next game.
“It is a privilege to announce that Vozinha’s mum will be able to secure a visa in time to attend their game this Sunday.”
“We can confirm our visa team in Praia is in close touch with her and providing the neededservices,” aU.S.S State Department official said in a statement.
