Messi hints father’s death may accelerate retirement plans
The captain of the national team of Argentina Lionel Messi has dropped the biggest hint yet that his father’s death may accelerate his plans to retire from the round leather game of football.
In a post shared on his Instagram page, Messi cast doubt on his football future and admitted he has “serious doubts” about playing much longer following the death of his father and long-time adviser, Jorge Messi, at age 68.
Messi shared his profound grief, in his post writing, “I don’t know what I’m going to do without you, I don’t know how to carry on.

“I only played football and now I have quite a few doubts that I will keep doing it for much longer.
“You were by my side from the beginning; there was so little left until the end. Why didn’t you hold on just that little bit longer so we could finish together?”
The 39-year-old has now been granted indefinite leave by his club to travel to Argentina for his father’s private funeral as he is set to miss Inter Miami’s recent League Cup fixture against Monterrey.
Jorge was a constant figure in Messi’s career as he managed and guided his son’s career from his early childhood in Argentina through his legendary rise to global stardom.
